In Germany the summer days were slowly but definitely coming to an end, so we decided to escape the first autumn storms of the cozy season to the coast of South of France. Leaving cloudy Frankfurt behind, we headed towards sunny Nice where we spend an afternoon enjoying warm summer temperatures in the month of October. This however wasn’t our final destination – what better way to explore the French Riviera than aboard the beautiful ANIMA II.
Day 1: Anchors aweigh
The meeting and pick up point was the old harbour of Menton, a charming old town close to the Italian border, only a quick ride away from Nice. When boarding Anima II, we were absolutely stunned by the beauty of the yacht that exceeded our imagination. On board, we were heartily welcomed with their house cava, and we were given a professional tour of the yacht and a briefing – also, because we were sailing newcomers. During the tour, we realised how thoughtfully the outdoor and indoor spaces were designed, convincing in elegancy and comfort. Everything matched and made us directly feel home. Since we enjoy cooking extensively ourselves, we were especially amazed by the high class equipped galley.
After a smooth afternoon on sea and brilliant weather, we anchored next to Villefranche-sur-Mer and spent the evening on deck, enjoying a beautiful sundown and drinks when it suddenly became quite windy and choppy… during the next hours, light turbulences were getting worse, so the captain made the decision to change our anchor point. We were impressed how professional and serious he managed this manoeuvre in the darkness of the night. Chapeau! The new anchor spot promised a restful night and a perfect start to day two.
Day 2: Antibes
After we were spoiled with a healthy breakfast with homemade protein bread, French Press coffee and other delicious snacks, we continued our journey along the coast. Today’s destination: Antibes. The wind allowed us to set sails and ANIMA II glided gracefully over the ocean’s white crests. In the evening, we hopped on the Dinghi to dine in Antibes.
The old market square led us to a charming restaurant serving delicious mussels from St. Michels, a culinary delight. Back on board, the house bar offered a well-chosen Grappa as a digestif, lulling us into a peaceful night’s sleep.
Day 3: Sailing to Îles de Lérins
Day three started with excitement as we aimed to sail from Antibes to Îles de Lérins. Though the wind didn’t entirely cooperate, it couldn’t dampen our spirits. We glided along the Baie des Milliardaires while enjoying the sun on our faces. In the afternoon, Cannes on the horizon, we reached Îles de Lérins. We decided to take a stroll on the island, leading us through idyllic vineyard sceneries and to an old Abbaye – that exuded an atmosphere of serenity. Back on board, we enjoyed a homemade dinner.
Day 4: Homeward bound
Our last day on board of Anima began with a dip into the blue depths of the Mediterranean Sea; refreshening and yet calming once back on the wooden deck and warmed in the morning sunlight. The final destination of our trip was Fréjus. The captain manoeuvred the way professionally through the channel and we arrived on time at the harbour. With a head full of memories, we left ANIMA II to return home – time to say goodbye (for now) and many thanks to ALL who made this first yacht trip so memorable for us!
